Shabbona Lake Bass Fishing Tournament

Who: Any local area high schools with interested students

What: This fishing tournament is designed to give some experience to any students/schools interested in participating in the upcoming IHSA fishing tournaments in the spring of 2009.

When: Sunday, October 19, 2008

Where: Shabbona Lake (Meet at Boat Launch at 6:30am)

Entry Fee: $10 per team (pay at ramp) to cover cost of awards, hot dogs & chips (you supply your own drinks)

Awards: Trophy for the winning team. Individual awards to the students catching the top three biggest bass.

Schedule of Events:

Meeting: 6:30am-6:45am
Launching Boats: 6:45am-7:00am
Tournament: 7:00am-11:00am
Weigh-In: 11:10am-11:30am
Award Ceremony: 11:30am
Cook Out: 11:30 – 12:30pm

Guidelines:

  • Each school may enter up to 2 teams (boats)
  • Each boat may contain up to 3 students along with 1 adult observer
  • Students must wear life jackets at all times (per IHSA rule)
  • Boats must observe the 10 HP limit in place at Shabbona (Larger motors may be used to power on and off the trailer.)
  • Each boat may bring in up to 3 bass for weigh-in (per lake catch limits)
  • Each bass must be at least 14” in length (per lake size limits)
  • All fish must be kept in aerated livewell during the tournament
  • There will be a penalty of 6 ounces per dead fish
  • Both smallmouth and largemouth bass are allowed (No Striped Bass)
  • Only artificial lures may be used
  • All fish must be caught from the boat during the official tournament time limit
  • Each boat must have an adult observer “coach”
  • The adult observer must run the outboard motor (per IHSA rule) and may give advice, but may not assist in the catching or landing of any fish to be weighed in for the tournament
